Custom homes and barndominiums in the Texas Hill Country.

From Fredericksburg to Wimberley, the Hill Country is where the land drives the budget as much as the house. Solvara plans it honestly and connects you with a builder. We plan and coordinate; we are not the builder.

Why the Hill Country is its own thing

The Texas Hill Country is some of the most sought-after land in the state to build on — rolling, scenic, and often rocky. A custom home or barndominium here has to account for the terrain, not just the floor plan.

Solvara does the planning and coordination. We are not the builder or general contractor — we get your project build-ready with the site costs named out loud, then make qualified introductions to Hill Country builders.

Where the budget really moves

On Hill Country land, the site is half the story.

Rock & slope

Rocky or sloped Hill Country sites can mean serious excavation and foundation work before the house even starts.

Water, well & septic

Water availability, wells, and septic run a long way on rural land — and they are separate from the build.

Access & driveways

Long or steep driveways to a Hill Country parcel add real cost. We flag those early.

None of that site work is in the under-roof build number — and local requirements are set county by county. Always confirm site-specific rules with your local authority.

Hill Country questions

Straight answers, up front.

Does Solvara plan homes in the Texas Hill Country?
Yes. The Hill Country — from Fredericksburg to Wimberley to the land west of Austin and San Antonio — is one of the strongest regions we plan in, for both custom homes and barndominiums. Solvara handles the planning and coordination. We are not the builder ourselves.
Are there good custom home builders in the Hill Country?
Yes, the Hill Country has an active market of custom and post-frame builders. Solvara does not build, but once your plan and budget are ready we make qualified introductions to construction professionals — never placements, approvals, or guarantees.
What makes building in the Hill Country different?
The land does more of the work on the budget here. Rock, slope, longer driveways, well and septic, and water availability can add real cost — and none of it is included in the under-roof build number. We surface those site costs early so they do not become surprises.
How much does it cost to build in the Hill Country?
We use Texas’s under-roof planning range of about $152–$184 per square foot (living, garage, and covered porches combined, sub-slab plumbing and up), excluding land and site work. On rocky or remote Hill Country sites, budget carefully for the site work on top of that range.
